every day a few words in english?

    Hello!

English is a language I nearly never spoke or wrote. I read English books (all the 7 Harry Potter and so on..) but I'm not accostumbrated to form myself phrases in this language.

This year I will spend a few weeks in the Philippines and I need to speak English there. (I don't know Tagalog or Kalinga or another local language!!)

This week I built a conversation group with two of my friends and an English teacher. Every two weeks we will speak about stories from the book "Kitchen Table Wisdom".

But I want to exercice my English every day a little bit.

There a only a few things I make every day like to sleep, to eat, to check my emails - and - to read in this Forum. So I had the idea to read every day something on English here and to write something...

There are more people who would like to make conversation in English?

(And if someone want to correct my English: very welcome!!)

I hope that we will find every day a theme of conversacion here in this thread.

So, who want to know something about something??? Or tell a little of ...?

    Cheers

    Oh that´s a good idea

You should know: English isn´t my favorite language. I´m feeling insecure. Reading my words and my grammar must drive a native speaker into madness. But I think that´s a good method of improving my english.
(And I hope that my insecurity will vanish some day)
And by the way: my attempts at constructing a correct sentence will give you all a great lough

O, nice to meet you, Mikamu!

Yes, me too, I'm really not sure of my English. Last year I was so surprised that my Irish friends could understand me... I think they could read thinkings... but not understand my words...

            Dear Ashira

great idea. We can start our conversation in English straight away and chit chat a bit every day. English is or better was my mother tongue but somehow ever since I was forced to speak three languages a day - it all got messed up.

Why are you visiting the Philippines? I think it is a fascinating country and has an interesting culture and religious background. I like mixed cultures a lot. Perhaps, it would be interesting to figure out if they have interesting literature as well - such books often mirror the mentality of a nation as well.

            Cheers and till soon

              good night, mikamu, see you!

              and welcome Samsara!

Which three languages you were speaking every day? German, Swiss German and French?

Tomorrow I will write a bit more of my trip to the Philippines.

If someone knows literature about this island: I'm very interested in this!!!

              good night all of you...

oh, the charm of Swiss German got me in the beginning, especially in a meeting where someone from Zurich discussed with a person from St.Gallen and one from Bern kept commenting .... and I had to write the minutes of that meeting.... but after 7 years I have mastered it (hopefully). We have to be fluent in German, French and English. Additionally, Italian could/would be usefull... but this is at the low end

                Good night and sweet dreams

                  Hi ashira.

I like the idea of writing and reading some english posts everyday and i hope i will find the time to join you!

English was my favorite language in school. I joined a student exchange program in 1990 and spent a month in the united states (ok: that is a different kind of english ).

I tried to keep my english alive by translating anything that seemed worth it with kind support of my Ponds Dictionary and i spent a lot of time in chatrooms, trying to learn some "spoken english" not just the vocabulary from some probably 20 year old schoolbooks. But i stopped this effort years ago.

I had to talk some technical english with our indian engineers - but we found our own kind of vocabulary and grammar.

And if someone want to correct my English: very welcome!!
You don't make the things you mentioned (which would say you build them). You DO things like....

                  with best regards
                  Sunshine

I like proverbs and found some proverbs from the Philippines:
Don’t trust in fortune until you are in heaven.
People who do not break things first will never learn to create anything.

                        Perhaps, this could be helpful:

                        LEO Deutsch-Englisches Wörterbuch

You can find lots of phrases there, whole sentences and not not only translations word by word.

Just go and try it! Have fun!

I'm very glad to meet you all here! English is a very important language in Germany, isn't it? In Switzerland we all speak more French than English but more and more the children want to learn English at school - I think, only due by the music... Who listens French songs?

My story, why i'll visit the Philippines must wait for another day, i don't have much time today... (o - it isn't such a large story... don't mind!)

The proverbs are really good, Samsara!

                            Hey

but maybe you should start a topic to discuss, otherwise this thread may be getting boring in a while

(What i want to say is: At the moment your topic is: Hey lets talk english. It's like opening a thread and asking people to say something in german)

What i like alot is youtube, most of the stuff is in english... Besides that, english movies, music etc helps a lot
But still, the most effective way to learn english is when you have to do it. E.g. being alone in a foreign country. Once you have to, you'll realize that brainwork is actually really hard work for your body.
